Application Notes

Astronomy

Our tiltmeters are installed on many of the world's newest and most advanced telescopes and antennae. The unrivaled precision of Applied Geomechanics tiltmeters makes them excellent choices for a variety of nulling, pointing and structural monitoring applications.

Bridges

Of all structures provided for public use, none are subject to as much wear and tear as bridges. Now, Applied Geomechanics offers money-saving solutions to problems of construction monitoring, structural testing, and bridge inspection and maintenance.

Mining

Whenever the crust of the earth is penetrated by man, for whatever reason, he places himself in the ultimate need-to-know situation. Nowhere is precise awareness of what is or isn't happening more vital. Nowhere is unseen and undetected movement potentially more damaging.

Vacuum Applications

The performance of Applied Geomechanics Miniature Tilt Sensors is not affected by operation under high vacuum or ultra-high vacuum conditions (10-6 to 10-10 Torr).  Our sensors continue to operate according to their specifications, even in these extreme environments.

In some vacuum applications, such as in synchrotron beamlines, it is important that no outgassing occur in order to protect sensitive optical surfaces.  In these cases our specially modified vacuum-compatible sensors - specified by adding the letters VAC after the model number - should be used.  In other vacuum applications, it may be important only that the sensor operate properly in the vacuum.  In these cases a minor amount of outgassing may be acceptable and our standard Miniature Tilt Sensors may be used.

Case Histories

Forestry

Applied Geomechanics Tiltmeters and Clinometers are used by foresters in a wide variety of applications. These include monitoring of slope and logging road stability, and measurement of trunk and branch movement during wind storms. The following case histories give details.

Volcano Pictures - Impressive!

We have many customers around the world who use our tiltmeters, data acquisition and telemetry systems to monitor active, dangerous volcanos.  They have been kind enough to share their excellent volcano photographs with us and we have posted some of them in this section of our website.
